Modernity

Modernity is a term used by sociologists to refer to the post-medieval, post traditional period of history that is marked by the rise of capitalism, industrialization, secularization (move away from religiosity), rationalization (thought guided by logic and observation) and the rise of nation-states and urban living. This concept is in opposition to the earlier agrarian (farming), rural, religious, small kingdom focus of the middle ages.
