Cortisone

Cortisone is one of the stress hormones secreted by the adrenal glands; it raises blood pressure in preparation for a flight or fight response. Its main function is suppressing the immune system; hence, reducing inflammation and swelling. This steroid is also manufactured as injections which relieve pain and inflammation, specially at the joints. They may also be given to patients with autoimmune diseases and those having organ transplants to prevent organ rejection. They may also be taken orally to reduce allergic-type reactions and swelling. Moreover, cortisone cream products are sold to treat skin conditions like rashes, itching, and insect bites.
