Unrestrained Group Behavior

Unrestrained group behavior refers to the lack of order or coherent purpose in a group such as in a riot or a violent demonstration. This can create violent and destructive situations. When in a group, especially in a situation where emotions are running high, many people tend to shed individual identity (deindividuation) and get caught up in a "mob mentality" and will participate in activities (violence, destruction, etc.) that, as an individual, they would never consider. This can be seen in group riots that follow emotionally charged situations such as political protests or sporting events.
