Tympanic Membrane

Tympanic Membrane is the medical term for eardrum. It is a thin membrane that separates the external ear from the middle ear and works by transmitting sound vibrations through the membrane to the small bones of the middle ear to the fluid-filled cochlea of the inner ear thereby changing sound waves taken from the air into fluid waves that affect the nerves that transmit sound to the brain.
