Orbitofrontal Cortex (OFC)

The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) is the part of the outermost layer of the brain which is situated just above the eyes, at the brain’s very front. It is involved with a number of functions including decision making, inhibiting responses, understanding emotions, learning, behavior regulation, and social behavior. Interestingly, research has shown that individuals with larger OFCs tend to be more optimistic and less anxious. OFC dysfunction has been associated with psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, borderline personality disorder, obsessive personality disorder, and substance abuse
