Objectification is the act of making an individual feel like a mere object. It is degrading someone’s value by ignoring his or her thoughts, feelings, dignity, and/or independence.

For instance, some women are viewed and used as objects of sexual pleasure in various social media platforms and business establishments as evidenced by pornography and prostitution. Psychologically, objectified individuals generally suffer from self-esteem issues and which may be manifest itself in various maladaptive behaviors such as self-harm, eating disorders, and substance abuse.
