Neurocognitive Disorders (NCDs)

Neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) are a category of conditions that include dementia, delirium, and amnesia. The main deficit in NCDs is within the cognitive functioning of the brain. Disrupted cognitive functioning is a common symptom in many mental disorders (like schizophrenia) but in NCDs it is the main symptom. NCDs are not innate or born cognitive deficits - they are characterized by a decline in previous cognitive functioning. They can be a result of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease or brain injury.
