Macrosomia

The term "macrosomia" is used to refer to babies that are born with an unusually heavy birthweight (for their time in utero): greater than 8 lbs. 13 oz. Around 8% of all births are macrosomic. There are several reasons that this might happen; greater than 9 months in utero and maternal obesity or diabetes being the most common.
