Institutionalism

Institutionalism is a governance approach which places more emphasis on established institutions instead of the individual.

For instance, certain organizations have privileges which individuals do not have. Moreover, this system refers to allocating more authority or trust to an institution compared to individual people. For example, the care for patients with mental illnesses is entrusted to institutions and not to individuals or home care. It is also a social science approach which focuses on the study of institutions. For instance, in political science, the rules, structures, and contexts of institutions are looked into.
