Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), previously called Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EHA), specifies that students with disabilities should be provided with education which is tailored to their respective conditions. This legislation aims to provide the same educational opportunities to children with and without disabilities.

The six pillars of IDEA are below:

1. Individualized Education Program (IEP) 2. Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) 3. Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) 4. Appropriate Evaluation 5. Parent and Teacher Participation 6. Procedural Safeguards
