Incubus

An incubus is a mythological creature in a male demon form. The name is derived from the Latin word, “incubo” which means “a nightmare induced by such a demon”. Incubi are said to lie upon sleeping women and that repeated sexual activities with them may lead to health deterioration or death. It is also possible that the supposed victims of incubi were actually attacked by human rapists who just used the mythical creature as an excuse. A version of the lore states that an incubus can impregnate a woman who will give birth to a demon-child. A scientific explanation is being in a state of dissociation which renders the body paralyzed while the mind is conscious. This frightening blend of mental consciousness and physical immobility may lead to such apparently experienced nightmares.
