Ibn Rusd (Ibn Rushd)

Ibn Rusd (Ibn Rushd), a native of Cordoba, Spain, and known to the west as Averroes (1126-1198) was a Muslim polymath or scholar of wide-ranging subjects, including both Greek and Muslim philosophy. Unfortunately, he was widely criticized by his fellow Muslim scholars and was better received in Christian Europe. Described as the founder of secular thought in western Europe, he is widely known for his translations and commentaries on the works of Aristotle.
