Hypersexual Disorder

Hypersexual disorder was not approved to be a part of DSM 5. It was recommended for inclusion by the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Workgroup to be characterized by a number of unsuccessful attempts to cut down on the amount of time spent on sexual fantasies, urges, and other related behaviors for at least 6 months.

For instance, Eve is a 30-year-old accountant who has been suffering from uncontrollable sexual urges for 7 months. She could not focus at work due to her erotic fantasies. Moreover, her boyfriend broke up with her since he could not anymore keep up with the frequency of her sexual demands. Eve then went on to have one-night stands which she ultimately regrets. Still, she cannot stop herself from experiencing such urges.
