Hot Flashes

"Hot flashes" or "hot flushes" is a commonplace symptom of female menopause but can also be symptomatic of hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer, or ovarian problems (cysts or tumors). When they occur they cause the person to feel hot and sweaty and can cause the skin of the face and ears to become flushed and red. This is caused by the hormonal changes that are associated with menopause but can also happen as a result of some kinds of food and/or drink, including spicy foods, caffeine, and alcohol. These incredibly annoying symptoms eventually end as the body becomes accustomed to the decline in estrogen that happens at menopause. Symptoms can often be managed by herbal supplements and by medical means.
