Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A)

The Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) is an assessment for a patient’s anxiety severity (mild, moderate, or severe). HAM-A can only be administered by an experienced clinician as this evaluation is serially done to verify the response of patients to treatments. This clinical rating has 14 items which assess anxiety-related behaviors such as anxious mood, insomnia, respiratory symptoms, and autonomic symptoms. HAM-A was developed by Dr. Max Hamilton in 1959.
