Genotype-Environment Correlation (rGE)

A genotype-environment correlation (rGE) is when exposure to situational or environmental situations or circumstances are dependent on the genotype of the individual. Evocative genotype–environment correlation describes behaviors that are influenced by genetics and the reactions of other people to those behaviors. This means that behaviors that are determined by genetics will affect the response and associated behaviors of other people towards them. These behaviors of others in turn will strengthen these genetically based behaviors. The evocative rGE influences a person throughout their entire life.

For example, a person who is naturally kind to others will typically receive positive attention and thoughts of high regard from the people they associate with. These reinforcing behaviors make the kind behaviors stronger and more likely to be expressed.
