Existential Freedom

Existentialists believe that freedom cannot be taken from a human being, as each person constantly makes a choice while facing multiple possible courses of action and can never be compelled to choose one. Therefore, each person is always free to make a choice and assume control of their own circumstances, even when they are not aware of a choice they are making. Existential freedom, then, is the freedom to act on the choices that one makes.

For example, a person who feels compelled to go to work every day to pay the bills can always choose not to do it and assume one of many other courses of action available, like getting another job, looking for a better life abroad, asking friends for money, starting a new business,…
