Exchange Transfusion

Exchange transfusion is slowly removing a patient’s blood and replacing it with a donor’s fresh blood or plasma. The procedure is done in cycles which last for several minutes. This requires the placement of one or more catheters into a blood vessel. This is often done to treat severe jaundice, sickle cell anemia, and other blood-related diseases.
