Enzyme Inhibition

Enzyme inhibition pertains to the process of restriction of expression of a particular enzyme due to a stimulus. This is in contrast to enzyme induction which refers to the increase of the expression of an enzyme. For instance, in molecular biology, a study found out that grape fruit juice inhibits the production of Cytochromes P450 which is a family of enzymes responsible for oxidizing steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics. Hence, taking in grape fruit juice may alter the disposition of some drugs.
