Dermatographism

Dermatographism is also termed as skin writing, dermagraphism, or dermatographia. This is a common skin condition which affects as much as 5% of the general population. It is characterized by welts and hives when scratched or rubbed. The irritation may also manifest due to extreme temperatures, stress, exercise, and vibration. The lesions are caused by the untimely release of histamine. Anti-histamine medications can block the inappropriate histamine reaction.
