Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC)

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is a part of the brain located in the middle of the frontal lobe at the front of corpus callosum. It is responsible for cognitive, physiological, and emotional functions. The ACC has a part in the regulation of blood pressure and heart rate. Preparation, anticipation, and decision making processes activate the ACC along with regulating emotions. The Stroop test engages the ACC which is evidence that it is essential for error detection.
