African-American Vernacular English (AAVE)

African-American Vernacular English (AAVE), Black Vernacular, or Black English Vernacular is a variety or dialect which is commonly known as “Ebonics”. As its name suggests, it is often spoken in urban areas by many middle-class African Americans and some Black Canadians. Examples are: “She be working Fridays” (She frequently works on Fridays), “Why they ain’t buying?” (Why aren’t they buying?), and “He done eat his lunch” (He has eaten his lunch). Some white Americans are able to speak AAVE such as the famous rapper, Eminem.
