Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is diagnosed when ADHD disorder symptoms occur in an adult patient. Although more children than adults are diagnosed with ADHD, ranging estimates suggest that 30-70% of children diagnosed with ADHD continue to have the symptoms as adults. Although adult ADHD shares many symptoms with childhood ADHD it is more difficult to diagnose in an adult patient.

The most prominent symptoms are inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. To be diagnosed with adult ADHD the patient must have had ADHD symptoms as a child, currently be exhibiting the symptoms as an adult, and those symptoms must be disruptive to their life.
