Metamemory

Metamemory is knowledge and awareness of your own memory, including the contents and processes of your memory. What do you remember and how confident are you in the accuracy of your memories? For example, you may realize that you’ve forgotten the date of a friend’s birthday, but you’re 90% sure it’s in July. Metamemory also includes the strategies you use to help you remember something. So if you’re reminded that your friend’s birthday is on July 8th, you may make a mental note of the date and the fact that 8 follows 7 to help you remember next time.
